At a glance:Annual income conversion turns an hourly wage into annual and monthly income using working-hour assumptions, so that pay quoted in different ways (hourly, daily, monthly) can be compared on a common basis. Annual income = hourly wage x hours per week x weeks per year; monthly income = annual income / 12. WARNING: The result is gross (pre-tax) nominal income — it does not deduct Salaries Tax or Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) contributions, nor does it include overtime, bonuses, commissions or the 13th-month payment. In Hong Kong, the Statutory Minimum Wage has been HK$42.1 per hour since 1 May 2025.
Formula
Annual income (gross) = hourly wage × hours per week × weeks per year.
Monthly income (gross) = annual income / 12.
$$\text{AnnualIncome} = \text{HourlyWage} \times \text{HoursPerWeek} \times \text{WeeksPerYear}$$$$\text{MonthlyIncome} = \dfrac{\text{AnnualIncome}}{12}$$How to Use
- Enter your hourly wage.
- Enter hours per week and weeks actually worked per year (lower it for unpaid leave).
- View the converted gross annual and monthly income.
FAQ
How do I convert an hourly wage to annual and monthly income?
Multiply the hourly wage by hours per week and by weeks per year to get annual income, then divide by 12 for monthly income. Example: HK$80/hour x 40 hours x 52 weeks = HK$166,400 per year, or about HK$13,867 per month.
Is the result gross or net, and how much lower is take-home pay?
The figure shown is gross, before tax. In Hong Kong, employees generally contribute 5% of relevant income to the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF), subject to a cap, and Salaries Tax applies on a progressive scale with generous allowances. Take-home pay is therefore lower than the gross figure shown here.
What is this conversion useful for?
It lets you compare jobs quoted in different units (hourly vs monthly), supports salary negotiation, monthly budgeting and household cash-flow planning, and is often needed when applying for mortgages or other loans.
How does it compare with Hong Kong income levels?
At the Statutory Minimum Wage of HK$42.1/hour, working 40 hours a week for 52 weeks gives an annual income of about HK$87,568 — a useful benchmark at the low end of the pay scale.
