FAQ
How do I convert Hong Kong's 'discount tier' to a discount percentage?
A 'tier' is the share you pay, so the discount percentage is 100 minus the tier's percent. 10%-off = pay 90% = 10% off; 20%-off = 20% off; 25%-off = 25% off; half-price (half price) = 50% off. In this calculator's discount-percentage field, enter the percentage taken off (the X in X% off). If you have a tier, first do 100 − tier percent — e.g. 30%-off = 100 − 70 = 30 — and enter 30. Watch out: 30%-off means pay 70%, not 70% off.
Can I add up percentages for stacked discounts?
No. Stacked discounts multiply in sequence. '20% off then member −10%' is 100 × 0.8 × 0.9 = 72, i.e. 28% total off, not 30%. The later discount acts on the already-reduced amount, so the real saving is always less than adding the percentages. Use this tool twice (first discount → intermediate price → second discount) or the triple-discount calculator for accuracy.
Is a larger discount always a better deal?
Not always. Some merchants inflate the listed 'original price' before a big discount, leaving the final price near normal. Judge value against the item's usual price or other sellers, and don't buy unnecessary things just because they are discounted. Smart saving means 'needed and cheaper than usual'.
Can I work backwards from the discounted price to the discount % or original price?
Yes. Discounted price = original × (1 − percent÷100). Given original and discounted price, percent = (original − discounted) ÷ original × 100. Given discounted price and percent, original = discounted ÷ (1 − percent÷100). To reverse 'how much off' from original and current price, use this site's mark-down calculator. Always keep clear the difference between 'discount %' (taken off) and 'tier' (paid); mixing them up inverts the result.
Does this include tax, fees or terms and conditions?
This calculator does a single percentage discount only. It excludes tax, service charges, delivery, tier eligibility, minimum-spend conditions and return restrictions. The actual payable amount is the merchant's final checkout. Read the promotion's terms (minimum spend, specific styles, member requirements) so the real benefit isn't eroded.
