At a glance:Mandatory MPF contributions: the employee and the employer each contribute 5% of the relevant income. The relevant income floor is HK$7,100 (below which no employee contribution is required); the contribution ceiling is HK$30,000 (in effect from June 2024), above which no mandatory contribution is charged, so the maximum per person is HK$1,500 per month. Total contribution = employee + employer. Voluntary contributions (such as Tax-Deductible Voluntary Contributions, TVC) are not counted here. This calculator gives an estimate; the actual amount follows the MPF scheme trustee.

Formula

Relevant income = min(max(income, 0), 30,000), but 0 if < 7,100

Contribution = 5% × relevant income (employee = employer)

Total = employee + employer

$$B = \min(\max(I,0),30000)$$
$$C = 0.05\,B\ (I\ge 7100)\text{ else }0$$
$$T = 2C$$

FAQ

Why doesn't it rise for high earners?

The contribution ceiling is HK$30,000; income above it is exempt from mandatory contributions, protecting high earners from excessive deductions.

What is the floor for?

Employees earning below HK$7,100 monthly may opt out of contributions (the employer still contributes 5% of the actual income), easing the burden on low-income workers.
