Skirting Calculator
Enter the room perimeter, skirting height and thickness to calculate the total skirting length and volume for accurate material estimation.

At a glance:Skirting runs along the base of the room walls. Total length = perimeter × (1 + waste%), where waste covers corner mitres and door-cutting (5–10%). Volume = total length × height × thickness (converted to metres); weight = volume × material density. Timber and PVC are light while stone is heavy, which matters for transport and floor load. This calculator covers the board volume only and excludes adhesive and fixings.
Formula
Total length = perimeter × (1 + waste%)
Volume = total length × height × thickness
Weight = volume × density
$$L = P(1+w)$$$$V = L \cdot h \cdot t$$$$M = V \cdot \rho$$How to Use
- Measure the total base-of-wall length of the room (perimeter).
- Enter the skirting height and thickness (mm).
- Set the waste percentage and material density.
- The tool outputs total length, volume and weight.
Case Studies
Living/dining timber skirting
Perimeter 16 m, height 100 mm, thickness 12 mm, waste 5%, timber 600.
Total length 16.8 m; volume 0.02016 m³; weight about 12.1 kg.
Stone skirting
Perimeter 20 m, height 150 mm, thickness 20 mm, waste 8%, stone 2700.
Total length 21.6 m; volume 0.0648 m³; weight about 175 kg.
FAQ
Why account for waste?
Corners need 45° mitres and door openings leave offcuts; 5–10% waste is safe and avoids colour mismatch from reorders.
What is the weight for?
Stone skirting is heavy; the weight estimates transport and extra floor load, important in older-building renovations.
