Grout Calculator
Enter the tile size, joint width, joint depth and tiled area to calculate the grout (joint filler) volume and weight for floor and wall tiles or stone.

At a glance:Tiles per m² = 1,000,000 ÷ (tile width × tile length). Joint length per m² = (1000 ÷ width + 1000 ÷ length) mm. Grout volume per m² = joint length × joint width × joint depth ÷ 1,000,000,000 m³. Total volume = area × per-m² volume; weight = total volume × density. Wider or deeper joints greatly increase grout use, so order extra for wide joints.
Formula
Tiles per m² = 1e6 / (W × H)
Joint length per m² (mm) = 1000/W + 1000/H
Grout per m² (m³) = length × width × depth / 1e9
Total volume = area × per-m² volume
Weight = total volume × density
$$N = \frac{10^6}{W H}$$$$L_{joint} = \frac{1000}{W} + \frac{1000}{H}$$$$v = \frac{L_{joint}\,w\,d}{10^9}$$$$V = A\,v,\quad M = V\,\rho$$How to Use
- Enter the tile width and length (mm).
- Enter the joint width and depth.
- Enter the tiled area (m²).
- Confirm the grout density.
- The tool outputs the grout volume (L) and weight.
Case Studies
Living-room floor tiles
600×600 mm, 3 mm joint, 5 mm depth, 10 m².
2.78 tiles/m²; 0.000583 m³ grout/m²; total 5.83 L, about 11.7 kg.
Kitchen wall tiles
300×600 mm, 2 mm joint, 4 mm depth, 8 m².
About 0.000644 m³ grout/m²; total 5.15 L, about 10.3 kg.
FAQ
Does joint width affect usage a lot?
Yes: widening joints from 2 mm to 5 mm increases grout volume about 2.5×, so keep extra stock for wide joints.
Why use area instead of counting tiles?
Using the tiled area to derive total joint length is simpler than counting tiles and already accounts for edge wastage.
