Asphalt Volume Calculator
Enter the pavement area and asphalt layer thickness to estimate asphalt mix volume and weight (tonnes) for roads, parking lots, and roof waterproofing.
Input Data
Results
At a glance:Asphalt layer volume = area × thickness(mm) ÷ 1000 × (1 + waste%). Weight = volume × mix density ÷ 1000 (tonnes). The asphalt mix is aggregate bound with bitumen; after compaction its density is about 2,300 kg/m³, slightly lower than ordinary concrete.
Formula
Volume = area × thickness/1000 × (1 + waste%)
Weight = volume × density / 1000
$$V = A\frac{t}{1000}(1+w)$$$$M = \frac{V\rho}{1000}$$How to Use
- Enter the pavement area (m²).
- Enter the asphalt layer thickness (mm).
- Confirm the mix density and waste.
- The tool outputs volume and weight (tonnes).
Case Studies
Driveway paving
100m², 50mm thick, density 2,300, waste 5%.
Volume 5.25m³; weight about 12.1 tonnes.
Roof waterproofing layer
60m², 30mm thick, density 2,300.
Volume 1.8m³; weight about 4.1 tonnes.
FAQ
How to choose the thickness?
A 40–50mm layer is enough for light driveways; heavy or bus routes need thicker or layered paving; roof waterproofing layers are commonly 20–30mm.
How is it different from concrete?
Asphalt is a flexible pavement with a different density and mix design, and it requires hot laying and compaction; this calculator only computes volume and weight.
