Slab Self-Weight Calculator
Enter slab thickness and concrete density to compute the slab self-weight per area (kg/m²) and distributed load (kN/m²) for preliminary structural dead-load assessment.
Input Data
Results
At a glance:Slab self-weight is a distributed load. Mass per area = slab thickness(m) × concrete density (kg/m²). Distributed load (kN/m²) = mass per area × gravity 9.81 ÷ 1000. This is part of the dead load; finishes, partitions and live load must be added separately in design.
Formula
Mass per area = thickness/1000 × density (kg/m²)
Distributed load = mass per area × 9.81 / 1000 (kN/m²)
$$m = \frac{t}{1000}\rho$$$$q = \frac{m\times 9.81}{1000}$$How to Use
- Enter the slab thickness (mm).
- Confirm the concrete density.
- The tool outputs mass per area and self-weight load.
Case Studies
Residential floor
150 mm, density 2,400.
Mass 360 kg/m²; load 3.53 kN/m².
Roof slab
200 mm, density 2,400.
Mass 480 kg/m²; load 4.71 kN/m².
FAQ
Is this only self-weight?
Yes. It counts only the concrete slab's own weight (dead load); design must add screed, tiles, partitions and live load (people, furniture).
How to convert kN/m² and kg/m²?
1 kN/m² = 1000 N/m² ÷ 9.81 ≈ 101.9 kg/m², so divide kg/m² by about 102 to get kN/m².
