At a glance:Hong Kong monthly deductions include the employee MPF and a salaries-tax reserve. Employee MPF = min(monthly salary × MPF rate, MPF cap); take-home = monthly salary − MPF − estimated monthly tax. MPF is statutory at 5% up to HK$1,500 a month; the tax here is a rough estimate, not the Inland Revenue assessment.

Formula

MPF = min(monthly salary × MPF rate, MPF cap).

Take-home = monthly salary − MPF − estimated monthly tax.

How to Use

  1. Enter the monthly salary.
  2. Enter the MPF rate and cap and the estimated monthly tax.
  3. Read the MPF, the net pay and the breakdown.

FAQ

Why is the MPF cap HK$1,500?

The current maximum relevant income is HK$30,000; the employee contributes 5%, i.e. HK$1,500. Income above HK$30,000 is not compulsorily contributed, so the cap is HK$1,500 (subject to policy changes).

Why do I enter the tax myself?

Salaries tax involves allowances, deductions and a comparison of progressive vs standard rates — too complex to fold in here. This tool focuses on the wage-deduction framework; enter the monthly reserve from a proper tax calculator for the most accurate figure.

Does the employer also contribute MPF?

Yes, the employer contributes a separate 5% (same cap). That is the employer's cost and is not deducted from your take-home; this tool only shows the employee contribution's effect on your net pay.

How do double pay and bonuses factor in?

This tool computes fixed monthly take-home. Double pay/bonuses are usually separate and may shift your annual tax band; assess them on an annual basis or spread them into the monthly estimate.

Does it include voluntary contributions (TVC)?

Not by default — it is your choice. If you have TVC, you can fold it into the estimated-tax field (TVC is tax-deductible, indirectly affecting tax) or plan it separately.

Can the result be used as an official tax filing?

No. This is a simplified estimate to help you see cash flow quickly. For official salaries tax, use the IRD calculator or consult an accountant.
