FAQ
How much should I tip?
It depends on region and service: in Hong Kong and Taiwan restaurants often 10%, in the US and Europe 15–20%, delivery 10–20%. If a service charge is already on the bill you may skip or reduce it.
Already has a service charge?
If the bill already adds a 10% service charge, you may not need to tip extra or only top up the difference. This tool computes the 'extra' tip — judge by the actual situation.
Separate from tax?
Tax is usually counted separately and not included in the tip base. This tool uses tip base = bill (pre- or post-tax depends on what you enter).
Does the split include tip?
Yes, per person = total with tip ÷ people, which best matches the intuition of even splitting.
Tip calculator vs split-bill?
Split-bill handles different individual orders; this tool assumes an even split. Use the split-bill calculator for more complex cases.
Delivery tip?
Suggest 10–20% of the order or a minimum of $10–20 depending on distance and weather. This tool works the same way.
