At a glance:Split-bill divides the total among people. With tax and tip: amount with extras = total × (1 + tax% + tip%); per person (even) = amount with extras ÷ people. Itemized: each pays their own items × (1 + tax% + tip%).

Formula

Amount with extras = total × (1 + tax% + tip%).

Per person (even) = amount with extras ÷ people.

Itemized: each pays own items × (1 + tax% + tip%).

How to Use

  1. Enter the bill total and number of people.
  2. Optionally add tax % and tip %.
  3. The tool returns per-person share (even) or itemized amounts.

Case Studies

$1000 / 4 people / 10% tax / 10% tip

Amount with extras = 1000 × (1 + 0.1 + 0.1) = $1200.

Per person = 1200 ÷ 4 = $300.

FAQ

Even split vs itemized?

Even split divides the whole bill equally regardless of who ordered what; itemized splits by each person's own items. Use itemized when orders differ a lot to be fair.

Should tax and tip apply before or after splitting?

Either is fine as long as consistent; this tool applies them to the total first then divides, so everyone shares tax and tip proportionally.

One person paid the whole bill — how to record?

Compute each person's share, then the payer is owed the sum of everyone else's shares. This tool gives the shares; track reimbursement separately.

Split uneven amounts (e.g. one pays more)?

For unequal shares (different items or a designated payer), use itemized input per person, or compute manually: assign each person an amount that sums to the total.
