Trip Fuel Cost Calculator
Enter distance, fuel consumption and fuel price to estimate one-way/round-trip fuel cost and cost per km, with multiple consumption units.

At a glance:Fuel cost derives the fuel volume from consumption and distance, then multiplies by price. Formula: fuel (L) = distance × consumption ÷ 100; cost = fuel × price; cost per km = cost ÷ distance. For a round trip, distance is doubled first.
Formula
fuel = distance × consumption(L/100km) ÷ 100.
cost = fuel × price.
cost per km = cost ÷ distance (round trip uses round-trip distance).
How to Use
- Enter the one-way distance (km).
- Enter vehicle consumption (L/100km).
- Enter fuel price per litre.
- Set 'Round trip' to 'Yes' if needed.
Case Studies
Weekend drive 120 km one-way
Consumption 8 L/100km, price $18.5/L.
Fuel = 120 × 8 ÷ 100 = 9.6 L; cost = 9.6 × 18.5 = $177.6.
Per km = 177.6 ÷ 120 = $1.48/km.
Same trip, round trip
Distance doubled to 240 km, cost = 19.2 × 18.5 = $355.2, per km still $1.48.
FAQ
What does L/100km mean?
Litres of fuel consumed per 100 km driven. Lower is more efficient: small cars about 5–7, SUVs about 9–12, large/performance cars higher. Get it from the manufacturer spec or measured consumption.
Does fuel cost include only fuel?
This calculator counts fuel only — no tolls, parking, maintenance amortisation or depreciation. For long trips add tunnel fees (e.g. Cross-Harbour Tunnel) and parking separately.
How about an EV?
An EV has no fuel cost; estimate 'electricity cost' using kWh/100km × electricity price. You can loosely map this tool's 'price' to 'price per kWh' and 'consumption' to 'energy rate'.
City vs highway consumption differs a lot?
Yes. Stop-and-go city driving uses noticeably more than highway cruising. For mixed trips take a weighted average or compute separately; this tool uses a single consumption value, so enter based on the dominant conditions.
Where to check Hong Kong fuel prices?
Published by major oil companies (Shell, Esso, Sinopec, Caltex, etc.), varying slightly by district; you can also refer to the Consumer Council fuel-price survey. Diesel and petrol differ — enter the matching one.
Is switching cars worth it?
Compare the per-km fuel-cost difference × expected annual distance, plus the car-price difference, insurance and maintenance, to get the real saving. Looking at consumption alone can overstate the benefit.
