At a glance:Age is today's date minus the date of birth. Full years = current year − birth year, minus 1 if this year's birthday has not yet passed. Days lived = day difference between today and birth date. Days to next birthday = next birthday date − today.

Formula

Full years = current year − birth year − (today before this-year birthday ? 1 : 0).

Days lived = day count (today − birth date).

Days to next birthday = day count (next birthday date − today).

How to Use

  1. Enter birth year, month and day.
  2. The system uses today as the base to compute age and days.
  3. It auto-estimates the countdown to your next birthday.

Case Studies

Born 1995-06-15

If today is 2026-08-22 and this year's birthday has passed → 31 years old.

About 11,400+ days lived; next birthday (2026-06-15 already passed) is about 297 days away.

FAQ

Does age count as a full year on the birthday?

Generally 'a full year is reached only after the birthday'. For example, born in 1995, before the 2026 birthday you are 30, and from the birthday you are 31. This calculator uses this convention (full years / chronological age).

How is legal age counted in Hong Kong?

Most HK laws (e.g. drinking, contracting) use full years (chronological age). Under the Age of Majority (Related Provisions) Ordinance, the age of majority has been 18. Age checks use the ID card data and birthday.

Why do two same-age people have very different days lived?

Because 'days lived' is the actual day count from the birth date to today, depending on leap years and the birth month/day. Two people of the same age but different birthdays can differ by nearly a year in cumulative days.

What is the difference between 'nominal age' and full years?

Full years (chronological/real age) is as above; nominal age is used in some traditional cultures — 1 at birth, plus 1 at each Lunar New Year. This tool gives full years; if you need nominal age, add per custom.

Born on Feb 29 in a leap year?

In a non-leap year, Feb 28 or Mar 1 is usually treated as the 'birthday'. This calculator compares the entered month/day directly with today; if you enter 2/29 in a common year the date does not exist, so it is treated as just before 3/1. In a common year, enter 2/28 or 3/1 to match your custom.

Does this calculator need internet or manual entry of today?

No manual entry of today — the system uses the device's current date automatically. If the device clock is wrong, results shift accordingly; please confirm the system clock is correct.
