Concrete Weight Calculator
Enter concrete volume and density (normal, lightweight or heavy) to compute member self-weight (kg/tonnes); optionally add rebar ratio for total weight, for lifting, transport and floor-load estimates.
Input Data
Results
At a glance:Concrete self-weight = volume × density. Rebar weight = volume × rebar ratio (volume %) × steel density (7,850 kg/m³). Total weight = (concrete weight + rebar weight) ÷ 1,000 to convert to tonnes. Lightweight concrete reduces floor load; normal concrete is general structural; heavy concrete is for shielding or ballast.
Formula
Concrete weight = volume × density
Rebar weight = volume × rebar ratio % × 7850
Total (tonnes) = (concrete weight + rebar weight) ÷ 1000
$$W_c = V\,\rho_c$$$$W_r = V\,p\,\rho_s$$$$W_t = \frac{W_c + W_r}{1000}$$How to Use
- Enter the concrete volume (m³).
- Select the concrete density type.
- If reinforced, enter the rebar ratio (volume %).
- The tool outputs concrete weight, rebar weight and total weight (tonnes).
Case Studies
Basement wall
10 m³ normal concrete, 1.5% rebar ratio.
Concrete 24,000 kg; rebar 1,178 kg; total 25.2 t.
Lightweight slab
5 m³ lightweight concrete (1,800), 0.8% rebar ratio.
Concrete 9,000 kg; rebar 314 kg; total 9.3 t.
FAQ
Why compute rebar ratio?
Steel density is far higher than concrete; a 1–2% rebar ratio already noticeably increases total weight, which lifting and transport planning must include.
What is lightweight concrete for?
Lightweight concrete has lower self-weight, reducing floor and foundation loads; commonly used in renovation/extension or insulation layers.
