Suspended Ceiling Calculator
Enter room length and width with grid spacing to compute ceiling area and total main and cross runner length for lightweight steel-frame ceilings.

Results
At a glance:Ceiling area = room length × width. Runners run in two directions: main runners parallel to the room length, count = ⌊room width (mm) ÷ spacing⌋ + 1, each length = room length; cross runners parallel to room width, count = ⌊room length (mm) ÷ spacing⌋ + 1, each length = room width. Total runner length = main runner length + cross runner length. Edge runners for the remainder after even spacing are approximated by ⌊side ÷ spacing⌋ + 1 (includes the edge).
Formula
Area = length × width
Main runner count = ⌊width×1000/spacing⌋ + 1
Cross runner count = ⌊length×1000/spacing⌋ + 1
Total runner length = main count × length + cross count × width
$$A = L W$$$$n_p = \left\lfloor \frac{W\cdot1000}{s} \right\rfloor + 1$$$$n_c = \left\lfloor \frac{L\cdot1000}{s} \right\rfloor + 1$$$$L_t = n_p L + n_c W$$How to Use
- Enter the room length and width.
- Enter the runner centre spacing (commonly 600 mm).
- The tool outputs ceiling area and total main/cross runner length.
Case Studies
Office ceiling
5×4 m, spacing 600 mm.
8 main runners × 5 m = 40 m; 10 cross runners × 4 m = 40 m; total 80 m.
Residential living room
6×3.5 m, spacing 600 mm.
7 main runners × 6 m = 42 m; 11 cross runners × 3.5 m = 38.5 m; total 80.5 m.
FAQ
How to choose spacing?
600 mm matches 600×600 mineral fibre or aluminium panels; for 600×1200 boards, halve the cross-runner spacing or use a heavier-duty type.
Why runner length, not just area?
Ceiling cost is usually priced by runner linear metres and panel count; area alone does not reflect runner usage, so items are separated.
