sphere surface area

At a glance:Surface area is the total area of all outer faces of a solid. Each shape has its own formula: sphere 4πr²; cube 6a²; cylinder 2πr(r+h); cone (with base) πr²+πr√(r²+h²); prism 2(lw+lh+wh).

Formula

Sphere: 4πr²

Cube: 6a²

Cylinder: 2πr(r+h)

Cone: πr²+πr√(r²+h²)

Prism: 2(lw+lh+wh)

How to Use

  1. Pick a shape.
  2. Enter its dimensions.
  3. Read the surface area.

FAQ

Does the cone include the base?

This tool gives the total surface area including the base; for lateral area only use πr√(r²+h²).

Must I fill all dimensions?

Only the ones your shape needs; the others are ignored.
