FAQ

What is the difference between market cap, revenue and assets?

Market cap is the market's pricing of the company's future (share price × shares), and it moves with sentiment; revenue and assets are actual accounting figures. A high market cap does not mean high revenue — think of high-PE growth stocks where the price reflects expectations, not current sales.

Where do I find the shares outstanding?

From the company's annual report, the exchange website or a financial platform (e.g. HKEX's 'disclosure of interests'/stock facts), under 'number of shares in issue'. Use the issued shares, not the authorised shares.

Does the market cap change?

Every minute, with the share price. This tool is a static snapshot: enter the current price to get the current market cap. For backtesting, use historical prices.

Does my holding value include fees?

No. Holding value = market price × shares, which is the current market worth. Your actual cost and profit or loss need the buy cost and fees deducted separately.

Is a larger market cap always safer?

Not necessarily. Large-caps tend to have better liquidity and smaller swings, but they are still exposed to industry and macro risks. Market cap is only a size measure, not a safety guarantee.

How does this relate to the P/E ratio calculator?

Market cap ÷ net profit = P/E ratio. This tool gives the market cap; the P/E calculator links the market value to earnings to assess valuation.
