HK$600

At a glance:Final price = original price × (1 − discount%). Amount saved = original price × discount%. For stacked discounts, apply them one by one (e.g. 30% off then extra 10% off) rather than simply adding the percentages.

Formula

Final price = Original price × (1 − discount%)

Amount saved = Original price × discount%

$$Amount\ saved = Original\ price \times \dfrac{Discount\%}{100}$$
$$Final\ price = Original\ price - Amount\ saved$$
$$Final\ price = Original\ price \times \left(1 - \dfrac{Discount\%}{100}\right)$$

How to Use

  1. Enter the original price.
  2. Enter the discount percentage (e.g. 40).
  3. The tool computes the amount saved and the final price.
  4. For stacked offers, enter the final net discount step by step.

The higher the discount, the larger the absolute saving; compare across shops at the same original price.

Case Studies

Case 1: 40% off a $1,000 item

Final price = 1,000 × (1 − 0.40) = $600.

Amount saved = 1,000 × 0.40 = $400.

A 40% discount roughly equals paying 60% (60% of the price).

Case 2: Stacked 30% + extra 10%

Wrong: 30% + 10% = 40% → $600 (overstates the discount).

Right: 1,000 × 0.70 = $700, then × 0.90 = $630; amount saved $370.

Stacked discounts are smaller than the sum of percentages — compare the actual final price, not the headline percentages.

FAQ

Is '40% off' the same as 'pay 60%'?

Yes. 40% off means you pay 60% of the price, i.e. a 40%-off deal (60% of listed price). A 50%-off deal = 50% off.

How do stacked discounts actually combine?

They multiply, not add. 30% off then extra 10% off = 0.70 × 0.90 = 0.63, i.e. 37% off total, not 40%. Always compute the step-by-step final price.

Is a bigger percentage always a better deal?

Only if the original price is the same. One shop may show 50% off a inflated 'original' price while another shows 30% off a genuine price — compare the final price, not the banner percentage.

Do I save more before or after tax?

Discounts usually apply to the pre-tax price; tax is computed on the discounted price, so you save on both the item and the tax. Check whether the store discounts before or after tax.

How to avoid impulse buying on Black Friday?

Set a budget and a wish-list in advance, compare the final price vs. the usual price, and ignore 'limited-time' pressure. Use this calculator to confirm the real saving before checkout.
