Retaining Wall Volume Calculator
Select a rectangular or trapezoidal section, enter base/top width, height and length to compute retaining wall concrete volume and weight for foundation and landscape works.

Results
At a glance:Section area: rectangle = base width × height; trapezoid = (base width + top width) ÷ 2 × height. Concrete volume = section area × wall length. Weight = volume × density ÷ 1000 (tonnes). A trapezoidal section has a lower centre of gravity and better overturning resistance, the common retaining-wall form.
Formula
Rectangle area = base width × height
Trapezoid area = (base width + top width)/2 × height
Volume = section area × length
Weight = volume × density / 1000
$$A = \begin{cases} b h & \text{rectangle} \\ \frac{b+t}{2}h & \text{trapezoid} \end{cases}$$$$V = A L$$$$W = \frac{V\rho}{1000}$$How to Use
- Select the cross-section type.
- Enter the base width (and top width).
- Enter the height and wall length.
- Confirm the concrete density.
- The tool outputs volume and weight.
Case Studies
Garden retaining
Trapezoid base 0.6, top 0.3, height 2, length 10.
Section 0.9 m²; volume 9 m³; weight 21.6 t.
Low rectangular wall
Rectangle base 0.2, height 1, length 8.
Section 0.2 m²; volume 1.6 m³; weight 3.84 t.
FAQ
Why is trapezoid better than rectangle?
A trapezoid is wider at the base and narrower at top, giving a lower centre of gravity and better sliding/overturning resistance while saving material — the common retaining-wall form.
Why compute weight?
Weight affects foundation bearing and transport fleet planning, and is an input to stability analysis (overturning).
